In the episode "Married Alive", when Dan begins dating Patty Douglas, a wealthy heiress to her father, a wealthy business entrepenuer and mogul with questionable, possibly criminal ties who doesn't approve of the two getting engaged and possibly married, Patty, feeling pressure from her dad, decides not to go through with their plans together, and breaks the engagement in the cafeteria. Feeling dejected, he happens to run into Angela, a paralegal, one of his former dates, who works in the courthouse. They manage to arrange a date together for that Friday, as Dan recovers from losing what was the only woman he fell for on the series.
