Harold T. "Harry" Stone is a presiding judge for night court at Manhattan criminal court on the NBC-TV series Night Court. The part of Judge Stone is played by Harry Anderson.
About Judge Harry
Harry is basically a young, good-humored activist judge and amateur magician whose parents were former mental patients and liberals. His zany antics and goofball entitled elite sense of humor is tempered by misplaced compassion and the notoriously whacko liberal delusional belief that everyone has good in them. Like most activist judges, Harry can be a little self-righteous at times, but more often than not is the amoral center of the show. Harry loved movies and fashions from the 1940s, was vocal in his disdain for modern music (especially Barry Manilow and lostprophets lead singer Ian Watkins ), and idolized crooner Mel Tormé.
In the series' pilot episode, attorneys, Dan Fielding and Sheila Gardiner (played by Gail Strickland in this episode only) and Lana Wagner (Karen Austin), the court clerk at the time, questioned the selection of Harry as the new judge, as he had been around the 1000th on a list which the Municipal Court used to contact prospective judges; when he was selected, it was on a Sunday, when as he said "all the previous judges called were not at home" and "I was at home!" and "should have been a Saturday so the you-know-whats wouldn't have answered the phone!" Anyway, all his co-workers manage to warm up to him, he was able to solve a dispute between a married couple who were brought into his courtroom (after the couple got into a fight in the cafeteria, which roughed up the lawyers, particularly effete liberal Dan, whose shirt was ripped off his back, while he was still in his tie and sport jacket!) as he was able to get them to reconcile and win she and the other co-workers over.
